IT-trends 2024 and 2025
Review and trends
The good resolutions
The new year is now more than two weeks old and, in my opinion, time has flown by so far, just like last year. For the new year, many people have new resolutions and routines that they would like to incorporate into their daily lives. For the first few weeks, this may be quite easy and you tackle the new challenges with full energy and motivation. After a while, this motivation often fades and you fall back into old patterns or can no longer stick to your good intentions (no judgment here, I feel the same way). Did you know that January 17th is the official “throw-your-resolutions-overboard-day”? Sounds crazy, but it's actually true. Today, of all days, is the day I'm writing this blog article. But why am I telling you about it? I want to motivate you to keep at it and keep going. Even if you may have long since given up on your resolutions in your everyday life, you can keep them in your company and at work. Having goals and working towards them is essential and will not only help you personally, but also the company. Stick to them and lay the first building blocks for a successful 2025.
Review of IT trends from 2024
Before we venture a look ahead to 2025, let's first take a look back at 2024. For most people, the year probably flew by again. But it was also a milestone in many respects. It was also a very important year for the IT world, characterized by groundbreaking developments. Technologies such as artificial intelligence and quantum computing dominated the year. Even if both technologies should still be treated with caution, they have become indispensable in many areas of life and make many things easier. A brief explanation of what is meant by quantum computing. Quantum computing uses special technologies, including computer hardware and algorithms based on quantum mechanics, to solve complex problems that cannot be solved by classical computers or even supercomputers, or for which they are not fast enough.
Most people are probably already familiar with the topic of artificial intelligence. However, it is very important to use ChatGPT and co. correctly. Relying completely on the technology is still not recommended, as the information is not always correct or useful. Despite all this, the technologies have come a long way in 2024 and can provide support in many areas. Personally, I have found out how it can be put to good use, namely for brainstorming and structuring. Creativity is essential, especially in marketing and content creation. We are all familiar with the problem that it is unfortunately difficult to be creative at the push of a button. This is where platforms such as ChatGPT or Gemini can provide food for thought and be very helpful. Perhaps a New Year's resolution to use technology in a targeted and meaningful way?
Outlook for 2025 for the IT world
After taking a brief look at last year and its trends at the beginning, I would like to go on to discuss trends and developments for 2025. Even though many trends may not be completely new, they still show a maturing and increased implementation of the trends from 2024. For example, the topic of AI is gaining more and more popularity and is being adapted in many areas, while there is still a lot of discussion about it. There are more and more regulations that ensure the safety and fairness of the technology and thus make its use more productive. Quantum computing is also being driven forward and is being tested by many companies and used for challenges such as optimization problems or high-performance data analysis. Another trend that has already attracted attention in recent years is sustainability in IT. Sustainability in general is probably an issue for all of us in our everyday lives and is constantly being driven forward. In IT, too, it has long since ceased to be an idea and has become a necessity. This year in particular, it will be essential to make your company sustainable and implement environmentally friendly technologies and measures. What may have set your company apart last year and made it stand out from the crowd will be a fundamental requirement this year. Driven by legal and social regulations, topics such as “paperless production” will no longer be an isolated case.
Conclusion
The year 2024 has already impressively demonstrated how dynamic the IT world is and how profoundly it will affect our everyday lives and the world of work. Technologies such as artificial intelligence and quantum computing have made significant progress and are opening up many new opportunities in various industries. Both have already proven their usefulness very often and will continue to mature and play an essential role in 2025. But it is not only new technologies that will continue to develop in 2025. The topic of sustainability will also take a big step forward and will evolve from an optional advantage to a necessity in the corporate context. The trends outlined here are certainly not the only ones and will be supplemented by other topics. However, they are probably the most discussed and most influential of this era. The year 2024 has unleashed a lot of potential and 2025 will show how we can develop this further in order to use innovations sensibly and make them sustainable.
